It has been the practice at past NASPH conferences to select a short text that interested participants can gather to discuss informally during one of the lunch breaks. This year our text, suggested by Prof. Westphal, is Paul Ricoeur’s “The Hermeneutical Function of Distanciation,” which can be found in Hermeneutics and the Human Sciences, ed/tr Thomson (Cambridge 1981).
Updated conference documents, now in PDF, are available at the NASPH web site.
The papers for our upcoming conference have been posted at our website. See the link to the conference page at the right. Conference attendees are especially encouraged to read the papers in advance, as there will be plenty of time for discussion following each presentation.
NASPH will hold its fourth annual meeting on Sept. 25-26, 2009, hosted by Newman University, Wichita, Kansas. The keynote address will be given by Merold Westphal of Fordham University. The conference will also feature an author-meets-readers session with John Arthos, author of The Inner Word in Gadamer’s Hermeneutics (Notre Dame Press). For more information about the conference, please visit the NASPH 2009 home page on our web site, located at http://sites.google.com/site/nasphdocs/nasph-2009.
